Summer and the Fields of The Palouse

We began our journey with a lazy few days on the banks of the Snake River just below the Lower Granite Dam in eastern Washington. This area served as our base for day trips to explore the golden fields of the Palouse region and nearby small towns. Here is the view of the Lower Granite Dam and the marina in the foreground was our camp for a few days.

The landscape has been transformed from the lush greens of spring on our last visit to the beautiful golds of summer and the beginning harvest season. The signs of this busy time are everywhere from the combines in the fields to the bustle of activity at the grainery.

The beauty of the Palouse is truly striking and the efforts and hard work of these farmers shines through in their fields.

From here we explored the small towns and parks that connect these rural communities and will share those with you in next Monday's post.
